Trip to Kinsarvik Hardangervidda a 4 day trek from "fjord til fjell"
Monday, 03 July 2006

In June 2006 week my brother visited us in Norway and ofcourse we wanted him to see a nice part of Norway, so we picked him up from the airport and went to Kinsarvik to hike in the Hardangervidda.

It became a 4 night 3 day hike where we went from sealevel to 1200m high and

back, starting from a parkingspace walking direction the water driven powerstation following  the Hardanger Kinsarvik fossasti a beautiful path up to huge waterfalls.

After a short walk we started camping at 250m hight just  past the waterdriven powerstation.  The next day  we climbed via a steep path using ropes here and there to get us to the 900 meter high lake called Rjuvavatnet.

Here we put down our tent again and fished for trout which where here in abundance. The next day  we walked on over a 1200m ridge down again to Lonavatnet and camped there at 1100m .

A path lead us the next day to Stavali a turist hytte from where we went back down to  the Kinsarvik fossasti at 600m high we put our tent just in front of a huge waterfall.  On all campingplaces we managed to have a campfire, allthough at the both high lakes there is no wood available in the area so you have to bring your own. (We where lucky and found a lot of old sticks which where used to mark a ski track)

A GPX file for upload of the walked tracks and waypoints of the camp places to your own gps device or for showing it in google maps is available for download as wel as a map image  with the track printed on it.

Allthough all the paths we walked where marked well as we followed some , according to the turistmap of hardangervidda vest in a scale of 1 to 100.000 it was sometimes a little bit difficult to find the start of the path. a good experience with map and compass and as we had optionally a gps device makes this path do-able for most people who have experience camping in the mountains i think, if you do not have a fear of hights that is.  We however did not meet any other people while walking on the unmarked sections, so you pretty well on yourself and dont think in emergency situations your be able to use your mobile as there is no coverage there
