Pulau Weh The tropical wetsuit experience
Friday, 12 January 2007
5.th. Of J anuary  Gapang Beach Pulau Weh

The long awaited but also feared first dive in tropical waters (sharks there you
know!!) is over. It was a success.

Never knew it would be so much easier to dive in a wetsuit compared to a dry
suit, I only wish that the bottle (aluminum) would stop pulling me up. ;-D.

The water was nice and warm 28 degrees.

We made an easy first dive…straight out from the
beach, no deeper than 10.3
meters, but we saw a lot!

Bluespotted stingray both under a rock and in free swim, twinspotted lionfish,
boxfish, snowflake Murray, snakeel, Gardeneels (spaghetti) and a lot more.

Tomorrow we have two boat dives planned;Rubiah Seagarden and a driftdive. Should
be really nice.

We are running up a bill here on the beach and get a cash advance from the
diveschool ( no banks or Atms here) the last day and then go around paying the
restaurants and the hotel.

Even monkeys peel their banana Hennie

Today we had power problems here and had to eat dinner in candle light…..nice
and romantic he? Right!

The food was good..I had simple food French fries and chocolate pancake and
Hennie went for the chicken curry.

The food came ,mine fries and Hennies rice and then something Hennie thought was
a sausage , there are so many Norwegians here so it has to be pølse he said and
happily ate it. Well even monkeys peel their banana and I and the rest of the
locals laughed our socks of when Hennie happily chewed banana peel. I
wonder…does it taste good Hennie?

There is not much to do here on the island so we go to bed early and is fresh
and awake
for the 10.00 o’clock dive tomorrow

6.th.of January

oh no looks like Hennie can't dive because of cold and I am not sure that I dare go by myself. We
are diving at Rubiah Seagarden as no 1 dive today. Hennie can't clear his ears and I go diving with one of the
divemasters. There are some currents but way better visibility today. I see a lot.... honeycomb moray, bluespotted stingray,
black scorpionfish, gardeneels, bluespotted pufferfish,Oriental sweetlips, lionfish, clown triggerfish and a big mushroom.

Hennie saw snorkling two big Giant murenes and a lot of beautifull pufferfishes

a really nice dive! I am going for the next one too.

No two dive was suppossed to be a drift dive but they changed it to batee tokong a place where there are a chance to see sharks and a whole lot of other bigger fish.
Depth will be approx. 24 meeters .
There were quite a current but also some sheltered places A very nice diveplace.
I saw;
Whiteeyed moray,eel,tuna,young giant morays,diagonal striped sweetlips,moorish Idols,Orange anthies,titan triggerfish,lionfish,scorpionfish,circular spadefish,redtoothed triggerfish,sleek unicornfish,div.boxershrimps and a octopus along with a dusin other fishes,but no sharks....looked for it but no....
Great dive,pitty Hennie couldn't dive.
(ha he had to pee while he was snorkling since he drinks a lot of water to hopefully clear his blockages sooner and while holding on to a rock at the shore hanging in the water he saw an octopus! ha the octopus changed to the same color as hennies pee completely yellow and then dissapeared under the rocks (hmmm apearentlly he didnt like beeing peed upon..... )

7.january

Still diving is off the table for Hennie...can't clear so I have to dive alone...
Todays two dives are:

Arus Palah and Sulako Drift

Arus Paleh:

A great divisite with a lot of life.
One of the divemasters David was my buddy, wich was lucky for me since I then was shown a lot of different things.
We didn't go deeper than 19,8 meters but it was more than enough ...
I saw
Ribboneels,Giant Moray,Undulated Morays,Different scorpionsfishes,Spotfinlinefish,Jawfish,Blanquille,Batfish,Starpuffer,Blockblotched porcupinefish,Black Snappers,Titan Triggerfish,Yellowmargin Triggerfish,Yellow Boxfish,Juvenile Emperor Angelfish,Yellowback Fusiliers,Oriental Sweetlips,Bluespotted stingraysand Chromadorius Elisabethina and more.

Sorry you had to miss it Hennie

Sulakos Drift.

My first ever driftdive!
It was a strange feeling beeing the ones moving (gliding)instead of the fish. :-D
Managed to see a little  bit though like
Bluespotted Stingrays,Scorpionfishes, Lionfish,and a nice pyjamas nudibranch.
To see some of it one had to swim back against a really hard current and I used a lot of air so after 37 min I had 50 bar left and waited so that we could go to a more calmer place to do the safety stop ,hanging on to a rock I had waited for aprrox a minute when I suddenly realised it was really hard to breathe so I checked my manometer and it showed almost empty (!)and I had to show the signal for Out of air to one of he divemasters and get her octpus and then make an ascent without a safetystop since that was impossible in that situation due to the strong current.
Well everything went ok and I am looking forward to dive again tomorrow!

8.January.

The canyon

The morning first dive went to The Canyon were we would more than likely see Napoleon Wrasse.

We went down to 23.5 meters and went in to the canyon and sure enough there he was just under us : a huge (1.5meters) Napoleon Wrasse, greenish in color,he was swimming slowly just above the bottom. What a sight. We also saw a big Unicorn Surgeonfih and different triggerfishes.

Hennie did some snorkling on the surface here and spotted a turtle!! Lucky you Hennie!

This day last dive was a beach dive to go search for a seahorse!
It was a dive that took us down to 17,6 meters ,not the best visibility due to the tide but good enough.

I saw Peacock Mantis shrimp,Titan Triggerfish,Yellowmargin Triggerfish,Blackspotted Puffer,Whitespotted Puffer,a small goatfish being cleaned by a wrasse,a baby Longfin Bannerfish,Emperor Angelfish,Godefroy's Seacucomber and yes I manage to find and photograph the seahorse (!!!!) :-D
Great dive.
