Bangkok 2007
Sunday, 21 January 2007
We are in Bangkok right now. Coming from Kota Baru in Malaysia with a short bus ride to the thai border and then the train (1st class sleeper) to Bangkok with service in the compartment wich is private for the two of us. thats very luxerious and we enyoy the ride. there is a 220V outlet in the compartment so passtime with playing games on the laptop. They come at 10 in the evening to make up your bed (convert the bench to a stapelbed wich turns out to be very long so i can sleep wel!!!!) we travel trough the deep south of Thailand  where there are some problems with seperative moslim movements .
Not a place to go to right now but oke to travel through with train we guess. The train sttaions are sometimes heavily secured with barb wire as we see from the window. Strange to see but soon we leave the southern part and after 20 hours we arive at huang lumpung trainstation in Bangkok.
At the train station we see a sign saying a new guesthouse is nearby opened here called Train Inn and we decide to have a look at it.
(our plan was to get a hotel in the Siam square area but oke having a look at this one wont hurt)
It turns out to beeing a very good idea to do that as the guesthouse has some very nice big AC rooms aith private bathroom next to the also very nice rooms with shared bathrooms.
And whats more they also have ADSL internet in the room. Wich is included in the price for the rooms with private bathroom.
So we decide to stay here and book the room for two weeks.
The metro is nearby so we can get to the rest of the city easily and chinatown is at the doorstep. Well ready for 2 weeks Bangkok!!!!

Btw allso Bangkok is heavily guarded by police and military. There has been a coup here end last year and there was a bomb in bangkok during newyear killing 4 people. As a result of this probably the security is so high.
Going in the underground metro everybody has to show the contents of his her bag, the train station is completely sealed of with security and also at Kao San rd entrance there is security.
I am not sure if this was allways the case but cannot remember such a high security the last time i was here, Ah well lets hope it scares off future problems here.

The next days we shop at siam square, eat at the foodcourt of MBK take the ferry over the river praja and wander through the beautiful temple complex of Wat Poh. roam through the streets in chinatown and drink cool Chang beer

cheers!
